Top Ten Sports Moments of 2016
What's up sports fans? I hope everyone enjoyed their New Years! With that being said, today we're going to rewind and take a quick look at some of the memorable sports moments from 2016.
10. Cristiano Ronaldo and All of his Trophies
It was the year of Cristiano in the soccer world for 2016. Let's see he won the UEFA Champions League and the UEFA Champions League Super Cup with his club team Real Madrid. He also won the UEFA European Championship with his country Portugal. Not to mention he was also crowned soccers best player with the FIFA Ballon d'Or. Win every major championship with club and country, check. Win the best individual soccer award, check. Maybe next year Messi..
9. Rhonda Rousey gets Beat again
At UFC 207 the main event Amanda Nunes vs. Rhonda Rousey the fight everybody had paid to see only went 48 seconds as the current champ Nunes punished Rousey. There was a lot of talk if Rhonda was ready for this fight after taking a year off after her devastating lost to Holly Holm. I don't know if we'll see Rhonda fighting again this year, it seems she's come to a difficult crossroad with the sport. But if you don't think girls can fight you need to go watch this fight on YouTube. These girls are some real bad asses.
8. Alabama Knocks off Undefeated Clemson
The Crimson Tide spoiled Clemsons perfect season in last years CFB Playoff Final. I remember this game like it was yesterday. This game went all 4 quarters and was one hell of a shootout. The Tide were able to come up with some big plays on special teams with a onside kick and kick-off return for a touchdown by the speedster Kenyan Drake. The irony in this is Clemson is going to get their rematch against Alabama this year and a chance to spoil their undefeated season.
7. Connor McGregor becomes First UFC Fighter to hold Two Different Weight Class Titles
The Notorious Connor McGregor knocked out Eddie Alvarez back in November to become the Lightweight Champion, by doing this he is the first fighter ever to hold a belt in two different weight classes. The Irishman has also mastered the art of shit talking and believe me he can back it up too. This was a huge year for Connor, he's the pound for pound best fighter in MMA right now.
6. Jimmie Johnson Wins 7th NASCAR Championship
NASCAR phenomenon Jimmie Johnson won his 7th championship beating out Joey Logano, Kyle Busch, and Carl Edwards at Homestead-Miami Speedway. Jimmie tied legends Richard Petty and Dale Earnhardt in championships wins and is among the greatest of the greats. I don't see him slowing down neither as he continues to prove he is the best driver in NASCAR.

5. 2016 Summer Olympics Rio
Where should I start with this one? This will go down as sort of a organized disaster for host country Brazil. The Brazilians weren't prepared to host an Olympics. From the widespread of Zika virus to the swimming pools turning green for no reason and the very unclean and trash riddled water. Many of the Olympic village houses that were provided for the contestants had some major issues as well such as plumbing, elictrical, and supply limitations. At least we got to witness the greatest country on Earth (USA) completely decimate all the competition in almost every event ecspecially if involved a swimming pool or a gymnastics mat the other country's might of well just not even showed up that day.
4. Peyton Manning goes Out on Top
The Sheriff capped off a hell of career in last year Super Bowl against the Carolina Panthers. It was nice seeing Peyton Manning getting one more before finally retiring. He had lost a lot of his arm in that final season but made up for the lose of talent by being Football smart and that's just something you can't teach. He knows his time was up in the sport. Plus what's not better than capping off a decorated 14 year career with a Super Bowl ring?
3. Cavs Takedown the Golden State Warriors
The Golden State Warriors had this Finals all but won and all they had to do is just win one more game. Talk about never giving up, this was a true testament to what kind of player Lebron James is. James was able to lead his team from down 3-1 to beat arguably one of the best basketball teams in history to win the NBA championship. Love em or hate em the guy is a true baller.
2. Leicester City Wins Premiere League Title
This is by far my favorite underdog story of the year. Coming right out of the second tier league in English soccer and becoming a English Premiere League soccer team, Leicester City had 5000/1 odds of winning the league title last year. These guys defied the odds and stunned the entire soccer world behind the golden foot of striker Jamie Vardy. Claudio Ranieri's guys proved that just because you don't have Manchester in your name doesn't mean you can't go win the Premier League title.
1. Chicago Cubs Win the World Series
Everybody knows what number 1 was going to be. How can it not be? Cubs fans have been waiting 108 years since their last World Series title. It took over a century for the curse to be finally broken and it's been a long time coming. The Cubs also managed to make comeback this year, down 3-1 to the Cleveland Indians at one point only to win 4 straight and take the championship right out from under the Indians. I guess what they say about karma is true Cleveland, what comes around goes around.
Alright that's it's for 2016 guys. A new year is upon us sports fans and we're going to try our best to keep you guys updated and informed on all things sports, beer, and gaming here on the blog as we roll into 2017.
