NFL Recap-AFC and NFC Title Games
And there was 2, another Sunday of being lazy, drinking too much, and eating shitty foods with all your buddies comes to an end. I hope all of you enjoyed your football Sunday, with that said we only have one more game left. That's right, the Super Bowl! If you were expecting to watch some good football this weekend like me, you were probably pretty disappointed unless your a die hard Falcons or Patriots fan. I was caught off guard by these blow out games, not so much by New England's game, but the Falcons absolutely wreaked havoc all over the Green Bay Packers in the Georgia Dome. I got a little biased after they beat the Cowboys in Dallas and just thought to myself there's no way they lose this game. But hey, way to prove me wrong Falcons. The injuries had finally caught up with the Packs. Just way to many key players injured to go toe to toe with a hungry Atlanta Falcons team, hopefully we're in for a much better Super Bowl. Now let's take a more in depth look of what exactly went down this weekend.
AFC Championship
Pittsburgh Steelers-17
New England Patriots-36
Never thought for a second the Steelers were going to have a chance, ecspecially when Le'Veon Bell got banged up early in the game, he's been Pittsburgh's workhorse all year when they needed a spark in the offense. But even with him, I was never worried for the Patriots, what Belichick does with this team every year is amazing, he's built a real juggernaut in New England.
TB12 was great as usual, he went 32-42 on pass attempts with 384 yards and 3 touchdowns. Brady just makes anybody he throws too on the field look like untouchable Greek gods. His leading receivers carved up the Steelers defense like a Thanksgiving turkey this Sunday. His main target Chris Hogan racked up 9 receptions for 180 yards and 2 touchdowns, Julian Edelman had 8 receptions for 118 yards and a touchdown, not too shabby for two small, scrappy, gritty, white receivers. Also former Steeler LeGarrette Blount had his time in the spotlight against his former team breaking a big run carrying the whole Steelers defense down to the goaline, next play he punched a touchdown in from the 1 yard line.
On the road in Foxborough Big Ben didn't play as well as I originally thought he would of, he still was 31-47 on pass attempts with 314 yards a touchdown and a pick. The Patriots defense managed to keep Antonio Brown somewhat contained as he didn't find the end zone Sunday night and only had 7 receptions for 77 yards. The loss of Bell really hurt the Steelers offensive backfield, his back up DeAngelo Williams got in the the end zone only once that night and had 34 rushing yards. In my mind I felt like the Steelers needed atleast 150 yards plus on the ground to have a shot at taking down the Patriots. Steelers mustered up all they had for about 2 and half quarters and the Patriots were still just too much for them to handle.
So it's exactly what I thought would happen, Patriots are just to good. You have to play mistake free football, control the time of possession by running the ball, and you have to put pressure on Brady. The Steelers did none of those they were out possessed, out gained, and simply just out coached by the great Bill Belichick. That mono toned hoodie wearing football genius is something really special. There's nobody that even comes close to his knowledge about the ins and outs of the game other than maybe Alabama's Nick Saban and he came from the Bill Belichick coaching tree. That alone says a lot about the guy.

It was the "Dirty Birds" sweet sweet swan song for the last game to ever be played in the Georgia Dome and they went out with a huge statement when most people, me included, doubted them. This game was decided and won by the Falcons defense and great QB play from Matt Ryan. Well deserved win for those guys finally getting over the big hump to win their division, something they haven't done since 1998. So it's been a long time coming for you Atlanta Falcons fans out there!
This game was so painful to watch though, I compare it to like watching the scene in Rocky 4 when Apollo Creed is fighting the big Russian and somebody just needs to throw in the towel on this bloodbath before somebody gets hurt, that's exactly what it felt like. Somebody just needed to stop the innevitable beatdown. Atlanta dominated the Packers from start to finish, at no point did it seem like the Packers were going to slow down the Falcons offensive attack. Matt Ryan had one of the best games of his career as a Falcon if not the best considering he brought Atlanta it's first championship in 19 years, he was 27-38 on passing attemps with the a whopping 392 yards and 4 touchdowns in the air, he also had a rushing TD.
You got to start asking yourself seriously, can Matt Ryan be one of greats? I say as long as Julio Jones stays in the A-T-L he will be just fine. Obviously Julio Jones had a monster game, 9 receptions for 180 yards along with 2 touchdowns. Sanu and Freeman also tallied up recieving touchdowns in this blow out victory. Last but not least I can't leave out Tevin Colemans rushing touchdown, he and Devonta Freeman have become the best one-two punch backfield in the NFL this year. All in all it was a very impressive dominate performance from the Falcons.
Aaron Rodgers still managed to get 3 touchdowns through the air in this game, he also led his team in rushing yards with 4 carries for 46 yards, pretty sad when your QB has the most rushing yards in a game. I cut them a little slack they really didn't have a go to guy for a running back, I mean come on their starting running back has been Ty Montgomery, which is actually a reciever the guy wears number 88 for crying out loud. That shows how banged up they were coming into the game and the luck had just run out for them. Packers defense didn't know what the hell was going on, it didn't even look like there was anybody on the field. Matt Ryan and Julio Jones snatched the Packers secondary up by their ears and put them over their knees like little kids, it was just impossible for them to contain Julio and if you can't cover him your in for one hell of a game and the Packers found that to be true.
There you guys go, that's your 2016-2017 AFC and NFC Championship recaps. Congrats to both the Patriots and Falcons, Atlanta hasn't been to the big show and dance in almost 20 years and on the other hand Belichick and Brady are going for their 5th Super Bowl, they've won 4 since they've drafted him in 2000. I expect a great match-up between these two there's a lot at stake for both teams. Just don't disappoint us fans with a blow out Super Bowl. Please whatever you do, don't show up in two weeks to play patty cakes with each other.
